Advice

SUMMER IS FAST APPROACHING!

As we slowly slip into spring in Cambridge, it is important to remember that summer is right around the corner. If you have not already settled on your plans for this summer, take some time now to start your search. For freshmen, the option of returning home to work in a familiar environment is often ideal. It will satisfy your need to save some money with no-cost housing and the assurance of work that you enjoy. Working at camps, restaurants, shops, and local tutoring programs are popular options for many freshmen and sophomores. If you want to take the familiar job that pays, consider using your networking skills to arrange one or two short-term, unpaid internship opportunities to supplement your experience this summer. The summer is long so think about putting several opportunities together. If a paying job ends in August, ask local professionals about the possibility of “shadowing” them for a week or two before you return to campus. Spending a week or two in a career environment that is of interest to you may be all it takes to confirm whether or not to proceed in that direction.

If finding something new and different to do this summer is more appealing, don't stop searching. Job and internship postings continue to arrive.  Continue to watch UCAN and the Crimson ~ Experience Internship Database at OCS as well as the Student Employment Office job listings. Find all of these resources and more on the OCS Jobs/Internships page.
