Crimson Careers: Unofficial Transcripts

Flatbed scanners and computers loaded with Adobe Acrobat are available in your House Computer Labs, the Basement of the Science Center, and at OCS.

There are two documents you can choose from to use as your unofficial transcript to scan and upload onto Crimson Careers. ***NOTE: Employers requesting an unofficial transcript as part of the application prefer the first page of your Student Record rather than an "official transcript."

1. Print your STUDENT RECORD from the Student Record Section of the Registrar's Office web site and scan it into a .pdf using Adobe Acrobat and any of the scanners available in the houses, computer labs, or at OCS.

***Eventhough the Student Record can be saved directly as a pdf, you must PRINT and SCAN in order to remove encryption.*** Your Student Record will "look" fine, but employers WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PRINT if you do not remove the encryption.

Many students are concerned that this is not an "official" transcript. Realize that employers are only asking for an unofficial transcript, and the moment you open any Registrar's document and convert it to a .pdf it becomes unofficial.

Students are also concerned that the student record does not include full course names. The vast majority of the time, it will be Harvard alumni who review your application materials. Alumni will be able to interpret the shorthand on the student record. If you are not comfortable using the student record, please use the second document type described below.

2. You can purchase your OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT from the Transcript Section of the Registrar's Office web site and scan it into a .pdf using Adobe Acrobat and any of the scanners available in the houses, computer labs, or at OCS.

Realize that employers are only asking for an unofficial transcript, and the moment you open any registrar's document and convert it to a .pdf it becomes unofficial.

If you plan to scan a copy of your official transcript the resulting .pdf will be a very large file. To avoid this problem, simply photocopy your transcript and then scan the photocopy itself. When you photocopy your transcript, the word "void" will appear across the bottom of the page. Employers are accustomed to that and are aware that the version of your transcript is not in fact "official."
