Aimalohi Ahonkhai, '98, (Biological Anthropology) worked with SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals in Nigeria. She assisted with a childhood immunization campaign in one of the villages by providing information about the importance and benefits of vaccinations. She also assessed the health status of the community and gained exposure to various epidemiological tasks. Anne Bayley, '99, (Biology) participated in forest ecology research at the Pasoh Forest Reserve in Malaysia with the Center for Tropical Forest Science, a branch of the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute. Shannon Delage, '99, (History and Literature) completed an internship at Preussen Elektra, a nuclear energy company in Hannover, Germany. She worked in a variety of departments, including Planning, Business Administration, and Accounting. Stephanie Gibbs, '99, (Literature) worked as a costuming intern with designer Donald Cardwell. She helped create costumes for an opera fesitval at Les Choregies d'Orange in the south of France. Prithi Gor, '98, (Economics and Latin American Studies) worked with the U.S. Department of State in Nicaragua. Her work focused on strengthening the system of communication between the Nicaraguan community and U.S. representatives. Rachel Greenblatt, '98, (English) worked with Pauline Hephaistos Survey Projects, a non-profit organization that produces travel guides for the disabled in London, England. She surveryed pubs and restaurants for accessability, learned about organizations for the disabled in London, and worked with disabled counselors at a day camp. Halbert Jones, '99, (History) served as a consulate intern with the U.S. Department of State in Guadalajara, Mexico. He spent most of his time working in the American Citizen Services section of the Consulate. Elizabeth Kanter, '99, (Environmental Science and Public Policy) worked with a maternal health research project in Zimbabwe sponsored by Ohio University and Earthwatch. She collected data on the health status of women and children, and assisted with preventative education workshops. Fotini Katopodes, '98, (Environmental Sciences and Engineering) worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management at the Aachen University of Technology in Germany. She worked on a theoretical study for groundwater modeling in fractured rock aquifers. Karen Kim, '98, (Women's Studies) was an intern with the Institute for Gender Studies in South Africa. She helped to edit and plan the curriculum for the Women's/Gender Studies honors program at the University of Pretoria, worked on a newsletter for women's issues, and assisted with a research project on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Suny Lay, '98, (Economics) was an intern at the U.S. Embassy in Montevideo, Uruguay. She worked in the Economic Section, assisting the senior economist with work on trade issues. Wilson Liao, '98, (Biochemical Sciences) traveled to Bern, Switzerland and Nairobi, Kenya to participate in a collaborative research project between the University of Bern and the International Livestock Research Institute. He assisted Dr. Onesmo ole-MoiYoi with biological research on pathogenic mechanisms of African parasites. Semra Mesulam, '99, (Anthropology and Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations) went to Tbilisi, Georgia to work with the Family Planning Association of Georgia, an organization affiliated with the International Planned Parenthood Federation. She was responsible for writing grant proposals for a number of projects. Maika Pollack, '98, (Social Studies and Fine Arts) was an intern at Gallery Koyanagi, a contemporary art gallery in Tokyo, Japan. She helped create an exhibition catalogue and performed various administrative tasks. Meredith Moss Quinn, '98, (Slavic Languages and Literature) traveled to Moscow, Russia to work with Human Rights Watch, a non-partisan human rights organization which documents human rights abuses throughout the world. She conducted research, translated documents, and contributed to written reports. Amber Ramage, '99, (English and American Literature and Language) taught English to children in a rural village in Thailand with Global Routes. Alan Reyes, '99, (Psychology) was an Executive Aide to Chairman Richard Gordon of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), in the Philippines. Alan learned firsthand about the corporate and political climate of the country and gained a top-down view of the operations and management of the Freeport and policies of economic development. Hanna Shell, '99, (History and Science) was an intern at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. She also gained firsthand exposure to the British Film Industry through her work with the Edinburgh Film Workshop Trust (EFWT) and Piccardy Productions. Shirin Sinnar, '98, (History) traveled to Geneva, Switzerland to work for the Refugee Policy Group, a U.S. based non-governmental organization which focuses its research and policy analysis on refugee and international humanitarian issues. She conducted research on refugee repatriation. Daniel Suleiman, '99, (Social Studies) spent the summer in Paris, France working for ARTE, a Franco-German television station. He was involved in the production of two nightly news shows.
