Jennifer Arcila, 2008, (Russian Studies) will travel to Moscow, Russia to intern with the Carnegie Moscow Center. She will translate the Center’s online newsletters and publications from Russian to English, and assist scholars with research, coordinating seminars, and updating the Institution’s library. Anastasiya Batrachenko, 2007, (Physics) will conduct research on an anti-hydrogen experiment at CERN in Meyrin, Switzerland. Matt Bosch, 2007, (Social Studies) will write and edit columns for a weekly social justice newspaper at Fahamu in Oxford, England. Nina Catalano, 2008, (Government) will work with Prison Reform Trust in London, England. She will conduct research and write reports to be presented in Parliament. Serene Chen, 2008, (Biochemical Sciences) will be a volunteer intern at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical Trust, assisting physicians in caring for the patients at the local clinic in Peda Amiram, India. Deanna Dong, 2008, (Economics) will conduct research on the corporate governance of Chinese state-owned enterprises with Professor Ning Xiangdong of the National Center for Economic Research at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. Marisa Flavin, 2007, (Biology) will work with Dr. Fernando Goldbaum to determine the biochemical mechanisms of riboflavin metabolism in Brucella sp at the Leloir Institute in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Kevin Gan, 2007, (Biochemical Sciences) will study how to optimize HIV/AIDS healthcare delivery with a team from Harvard Medical School Division of AIDS near Durban, South Africa. Julian Gingold, 2007, (Chemistry and Physics) will study correlated protein mutations in the Structural Biology department of the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot, Israel. Alexandra Gutierrez, 2008, (Social Studies) will assist with projects related to infrastructure development while working for Grupo Financiero Inbursa in Mexico City, Mexico. Alicia Harley, 2008, (Environmental Science and Public Policy) will research coral reef health and sea cucumber diversity in the Red Sea with a local marine research station, MATE, and the Egyptian National Park Service in Dahab, Egypt. Edward Henry, 2007, (Physics) will conduct research on optical trapping using digital holography at the University of Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain. Rafael Hines, 2008, (History and Italian Studies) will work for Brunello Cucinelli in Solomeo, Italy. He will be focusing on international sales and imports of cashmere clothing collections. Miriam Hinman, 2008, (Chemistry and Anthropology) will excavate at Tel Dor and do archeological science research at the Weizmann Institute’s Kimmel Center for Archaeological Science in Rehovot, Israel. Robert Huang, 2007, (Biochemical Sciences) will study the efficacy of various vaccines for Schistosomiasis Japonicum in water buffalo at the Hunan Institute of Parasitic Diseases in Hunan, China. Victoria Kim, 2007, (History) will report on local West African affairs for the Associated Press in Dakar, Senegal, in collaboration with other AP correspondents. Nina Kouyoumdjian, 2008, (Government) will work in the corporate law department at Bin Shabib & Associates in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Ohkyung Kwon, 2007, (Physics and Mathematics) will work with members of the ATLAS collaboration on the commissioning of the muon detector system at the Large Hadron Collider at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), in Meyrin, Switzerland. Hisham Mabrook, 2008, (Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) will intern at Dar Al Istithmar in London, England. He will be involved in the development of financial tools that comply with Islamic laws for the Muslim population. Ayah Mahgoub, 2007, (Economics) will assist the Franco American Commission for Educational Exchange in the implementation and evaluation of an educational program targeting underserved areas in the suburbs of Paris, France. Steven McDonald, 2008, (Neurobiology) will shadow doctors and aid research at the Department of Neurology in the Hospital St. Pau of Barcelona, Spain. Irina Mladenova, 2008, (History of Art and Architecture) will conduct research at the Graz University of Technology in Graz, Austria. She will be researching the techniques used by Austria and Hungary in preserving their historic monuments within the modern metropolis. Oluwarotimi Okunade, 2007, (Engineering Sciences) will be working with Medicine in Need to assess the need for and acceptability of a hand-held inhaler device used for the treatment of Multi-Resistant Tuberculosis in Pretoria, South Africa. Lucas Paul, 2008, (Social Studies) will research rural democracy and foreign NGO involvement in rural China while working for the Carter Center’s Democracy Information Project and the Beijing Center for Policy Research in Beijing, China. Caroline Sloan, 2007, (History) will assist in the development of Rwanda’s HIV/AIDS-related virtual library at the National University of Rwanda School of Public Health in Kigali, Rwanda. Anna Swenson, 2008, (Classics-Latin) will perform nursing and nutritionist duties at Groote Shuur’s Pediatric HIV/AIDS ward, and expand the beadwork project of the NGO Kidzpositive in Cape Town, South Africa. Jianhua Andy Tau, 2007, (Economics) will assist in inpatient care and outpatient rural education at Proyecto Salud y Paz, a health clinic serving the impoverished indigenous Mayan population outside of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. Stephanie Teng, 2008, (Biology) will conduct research in human tumor immunology and learn about basic immune monitoring techniques at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in Lausanne, Switzerland. Ryan Thoreson, 2007, (Government and Studies of Women, Gender & Sexuality) will research grassroots gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender organizations and legislation around the world at the International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA) in Brussels, Belgium. Anton Troianovski, 2008, (Social Studies) will work as a reporting intern at the Moscow bureau of the Associated Press in Moscow, Russia. Jennifer Wu, 2007, (Anthropology) will assist with outreach health camps and other clinic activities, and develop nonviolence and mental health awareness programs at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical Trust in Peda Amiram, India. Michelle Wu, 2007, (Economics and Psychology) will conduct a variety of research and writing projects involving recent developments in Chinese law as an intern at the law firm of Hogan & Harston, LLP in Shanghai, China. Amy Xu, 2007, (Biomedical Sciences and Engineering) will investigate the subcellular localization of endothelial calcium entry induced by VEGF in the Microvascular Research Laboratories at the University of Bristol in Bristol, England. Jessica Yang, 2008, (Biochemistry) will use art therapy to help children affected by the AIDS epidemic at the AIDS Orphan Salvation Association in Fuyang, Anhui Province, China.
