"In Ireland the inevitable never happens and the unexpected constantly occurs."
- Sir John Pentland Mahaffy

Hello, my name is Julia, and I will be spending the summer in Ireland! From the end of May to mid-August, I will be working at the Irish Centre for Human Rights at the National University of Ireland, Galway [www.nuigalway.ie/human_rights]. The Centre is a small institution dedicated to the study and promotion of human rights and humanitarian law, and houses full-time faculty as well as fellows, Master's students, and Ph.D. candidates. I will be working with the Centre's Research Projects Manager. In addition to serving the Centre in this capacity, Peter has worked on projects dealing with the Northern Ireland peace process, minority rights, and aspects of refugee law.

This will be my first time in Ireland - in Europe, actually! So in addition to gaining experience in human rights work, academia, research, and advocacy, I am looking forward to doing lots of exploring and adventuring – hopefully all over the west of Ireland, the rest of the Emerald Isle, and maybe a bit around Europe as well.

Summer in Ireland! Life can't get much better, right?
