INTERNSHIP / VOLUNTEER

Since many organizations use the term “intern” or “volunteer” interchangeably, information in this section will apply to both. There are three key options in pursuing an internship or volunteer position:

1. Approach organizations whose mission and work you value and pitch your skills and interest;
2. Apply to an organization’s internship or volunteer program; or
3. Have a third-party organization arrange and place you in a position. Oftentimes, this requires a fee. When weighing this option, consider the services provided, what the fee includes, and whether you receive any compensation.
