MARSHALL SCHOLARSHIP ENDORSEMENTS

Marshall Scholarships provide for one, two, or three years of postgraduate education in any participating British university. U.S. citizenship and a cumulative college GPA of 3.7 on a four-point scale are required. Applicants should have well conceived plans of study in their designated universities. University endorsement is required. Endorsement applications are available in the Fellowships Office through August 28.

Rhodes Scholarships provide for one to three years of postgraduate education at Oxford University. Applicants should have well conceived study plans, as well as records of extracurricular achievement. University endorsement is required. Endorsement applications are available in the Fellowships Office through August 28.

MITCHELL SCHOLARSHIP ENDORSEMENTS

Mitchell Scholarships provide for one year of postgraduate study at any participating university in Ireland (either Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland). Applicants must be U.S. citizens with solid academic records and evidence of leadership potential and commitment to their communities. University endorsement is required for currently enrolled students. Endorsement applications are available in the Fellowships Office through September 2.

FULBRIGHT GRANTS

Fulbright Grants provide for one year of postgraduate study in nearly any field in nearly any country outside the U.S. Fulbright teaching assistantships are currently offered in 44 countries. Fulbright travel grants supplement project funding in three countries. U.S. citizenship is required for each. The Fellowships Office administers this competition only for current seniors. Candidates must submit a draft proposal to gain access to the on-line application. Application instructions are available in the Fellowships Office through Wednesday, September 2.

OCTOBER DEADLINES

 

CHURCHILL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

Churchill Scholarships provide funding toward a year of postgraduate study and research in the natural sciences, engineering, or mathematics at Churchill College, Cambridge. U.S. citizenship is required. Harvard's competition is for University nomination to the national round. Applicants must take the GRE early enough to assure Churchill Foundation score receipt by early December.

MICHAEL C. ROCKEFELLER MEMORIAL FELLOWSHIPS

Rockefeller Fellowships fund a year of purposeful postgraduate travel in a foreign country for candidates at critical stages in their development who feel a need for a new and broadening experience. House nomination is not required—nonetheless, candidates must contact their House Fellowships Advisors well before the College deadline for information on the fellowship and personal suitability.

MERAGE FOUNDATION FOR THE AMERICAN DREAM FELLOWSHIP NOMINATIONS

The Merage Foundation Fellows Program awards immigrants to the United States $10,000 per year for two years to use in fostering education, traveling, securing mentors, and supporting internships. Applicants must be graduating seniors who have either become U.S. citizens since coming to the United States or hold a Permanent Resident Card. Harvard’s competition is for University nomination to the national round.

SAINT ANDREW'S SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIPS

St. Andrew's Society Scholarships provide funding toward a year of postgraduate study at any Scottish university for U.S. citizens of Scots descent who can demonstrate financial need for the award. Applicants must also reside or attend school within a 250-mile radius of New York State. Harvard's competition is for University nomination to the national round.

HARRY S. TRUMAN SCHOLARSHIP NOMINATIONS

Truman Scholarships provide funds up to $30,000 in scholarship support for graduate school. U.S. citizens or nationals with strong academic records and commitment to a career in government or public life are eligible. Applicants must be juniors. Harvard's competition is for College nomination to the national round.

CARNEGIE ENDOWMENT JUNIOR FELLOWSHIP NOMINATIONS

Carnegie Endowment for International Peace Junior Fellowships provide a salaried one-year postgraduate work experience at the Endowment’s offices in Washington, DC. Recent fellows have served with Foreign Policy magazine and other Endowment program areas. Harvard’s competition is for nomination to the national round.

BARRY M. GOLDWATER SCHOLARSHIP NOMINATIONS

Goldwater Scholarships provide funding for the junior and/or senior year of college for students with outstanding records in mathematics and the sciences. Applicants must be sophomores or juniors who are U.S. citizens or nationals. Advanced standing students whose B.A. programs will take four years are eligible to compete. Harvard's competition is for College nomination to the national round.

EBEN FISKE STUDENTSHIP AT TRINITY COLLEGE

The Eben Fiske Studentship supports pursuit of a multi-year advanced degree in any field at Trinity College, Cambridge. Harvard's competition is for nomination to Trinity College, at which point nominees must make formal application for admission, and final decisions are made at the University of Cambridge.

PAUL WILLIAMS SCHOLARSHIP TO EMMANUEL COLLEGE

The Paul Williams Scholarship provides for a year of postgraduate study at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, in the fields of international government and public affairs. These fields may be broadly construed; the aim of the scholarship is to foster a formative study experience for recipients. Independent application to suitable programs at Cambridge is required.

HARVARD-CAMBRIDGE SCHOLARSHIPS

Harvard-Cambridge Scholarships provide for a year of postgraduate study in any field at Emmanuel, Jesus, Pembroke, or Trinity Colleges, Cambridge. Applicants need not have a formal plan of study or definite career plans, but must demonstrate how a year at Cambridge would be personally enriching. Independent application to Cambridge is required for applicants seeking to pursue a graduate degree program.

WILLIAM LYON MACKENZIE KING HARVARD SCHOLARSHIP

The Mackenzie King Harvard Scholarship provides partial funding toward a year of postgraduate study in a Canadian university, and in a specifically Canadian field. Applicants should have well conceived plans of study. This competition is open to all graduating seniors. Independent university application is required at the time of application.

HERCHEL SMITH HARVARD POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS

Herchel Smith Harvard Postgraduate Scholarships provide for a year of postgraduate study at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, in experimental natural sciences, computer science, or mathematics. These fields are strictly defined. Independent application to Cambridge is required. (Scholarships may be extended for one or two years for those in multi-year programs, contingent on satisfactory degree progress.)

BEINECKE SCHOLARSHIP NOMINATIONS

Beinecke Scholarships provide $4,000 in scholarship assistance immediately prior to entering graduate school and an additional $30,000 in scholarship assistance while attending graduate school in the arts, humanities, and social sciences (excluding neurosciences). Applicants should have superior academic records in preparation for their proposed plans of study. Applicants must be current juniors and U.S. citizens in receipt of financial aid. Harvard's competition is for College nomination to the national round.

JANUARY DEADLINES

 

UDALL SCHOLARSHIPS

Udall Scholarships provide sophomores or juniors with $5,000 in tuition assistance for the following year. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or nationals, and fall into one of two categories: (1) those with career interests in environmental public policy and related fields, or (2) Native Americans/Alaska Natives with career interests in health care or tribal public policy. Harvard's competition is for College nomination to the national round.

ARTIST DEVELOPMENT FELLOWSHIPS

Artist Development Fellowships are awarded to support student development in the practice of the arts. Competition is open to all currently enrolled undergraduates, and projects must ordinarily be completed prior to graduation. The Council may occasionally make exceptions for projects that are to be undertaken immediately following graduation, although current undergraduates will be given priority. The number and amount of individual awards will vary each year according to available funds and project budgets. Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000.

FEBRUARY DEADLINES

 

MILLFIELD, SHREWSBURY, and STOWE SCHOOL FELLOWSHIPS

The Millfield, Shrewsbury, and Stowe School Fellowships provide for a year of postgraduate work as a teaching fellow in England, at either the Millfield, Shrewsbury, or Stowe school, respectively.  Fellowships provide room, board, and a living stipend; duties include teaching, extracurricular, and residential responsibilities. Graduating seniors are eligible. (For Millfield, candidates must have a degree or equivalent background in mathematics, natural science, or physical science.) Harvard’s competition is for nomination to the respective schools, where final decisions are made.

HERCHEL SMITH HARVARD SUMMER UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

Herchel Smith Harvard Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships provide funding for 10-week-long research experiences in computer science, mathematics, the natural sciences, and the physical and engineering sciences at established research centers or laboratories in the U.S. or overseas. The intent of the program is to fund formative experiences in the sciences—the target audience is freshmen and sophomores, and occasionally others, for whom exposure to research and focused scientific environments has been limited.

WEISSMAN INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM GRANTS

The Weissman International Internship Program provides funding for full-time overseas internships in any professional organization, including both the profit and nonprofit sectors. Applicants must be returning undergraduates, and must have arranged for their own internship placements. Internship projects must be at least eight weeks in duration and will ordinarily take place during the summer.

ALEX G. BOOTH '30 FUND FELLOWSHIPS

Booth Fund Fellowships help to defray the cost of travel, tuition, or other appropriate expenses for travel to a country or countries related to the recipient's field of interest, either during the summer or during the following academic year. Applicants must be juniors or seniors.

ROUX GLOBAL HEALTH TRAVEL GRANTS

Roux Global Health Travel Grants support summer projects overseas that are clearly related to global health issues or concerns. Grants do not ordinarily exceed $5,000 and are intended for individuals, not groups. Undergraduates who will be returning to Harvard in the fall are eligible; financial need is not a selection criterion.

JOHN PATTERSON TRAVELING FELLOWSHIP

The John Thomas Patterson Traveling Fellowship provides approximately $2,000 to fund summer or holiday travel to Italy. The award is intended to introduce Italy to a student who has little familiarity with the country and to fund travel that would not otherwise happen. The travel undertaken should be intellectually purposeful and personally enriching but need not contribute to an academic project. Competition is open to all freshmen, sophomores, and juniors who are not Italian citizens and who have not lived in Italy; there is a preference for Mather House residents and affiliates.

GABRIEL PIEDRAHITA MEMORIAL FELLOWSHIP

The Piedrahita Memorial Fellowship commemorates the aspirations of Gabriel Piedrahita '96 to invigorate intellectual discourse on Colombian history, politics, and culture. Open to current non-Colombian sophomores and juniors, the fellowship provides support for a summer, semester, or longer period of study or purposeful intellectual exploration in Colombia. Ambassadorial qualities and a genuine interest in Colombia are important selection criteria.

LAURA HOUGHTELING MEMORIAL FELLOWSHIP

The Houghteling Memorial Fellowship commemorates the aspirations of Laura Houghteling '92 to contribute to the teaching professions. The fellowship provides funding for student loan repayment to support aspiring teachers in pursuit of their education or profession. Applicants must be graduating seniors on financial aid.

HARVARD-CAMBRIDGE SCHOLARSHIPS COMMITTEE SUMMER FELLOWSHIPS

The Harvard-Cambridge Scholarships Committee offers summer fellowships to rising juniors and seniors to pursue meaningful opportunities in the United Kingdom—either through sponsored research or study experiences at Cambridge, or in affiliation with Cambridge-sponsored or affiliated arts or service projects.  Fellowships will provide for expenses necessary to generously cover each summer experience.  Experiences themselves should be at least eight weeks in duration.

SUMMER PUBLIC SERVICE GRANTS

Public Service Grants fund primarily domestic public service projects for various amounts of time, usually during the summer. Selection committees strongly favor domestic projects. Financial need may be considered among selection criteria. Location, timing, and eligibility stipulations vary with each grant. One application places the candidate in consideration for all suitable awards.
